I am super excited to announce that we are recording "To Catch a Tiger" By Daniel Burke as an audio play this weekend.  "To Catch a Tiger" tells the story of four Nonion children Eeny, Meeny, Miny and Moe, who crash land on an Alien world known to them as Earth.  In an effort to escape this strange planet the four Nonions must retrieve some Earthly resources to fix their ship.  There is only one problem standing in their way... a tiger!  Or is it a Rabbit... Miny thinks it's a rabbit!

We have some amazing talent for each role and will unveil more information and samples soon.

Recently Crosstitch Productions created a custom puppet show for the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts.  We wanted to take a little time to show, the overall process of how each puppet was created.

There were four puppets created for the "Art of Baking."  All of the puppets are simple cable control.  They each utilize one cable to control the mouth.  Rods are used to manipulate the head and arms.

The following will be a very rough and simple way to explain how the puppets for the "Art of Baking"

This part we will go over the general view of the puppet mechanism design.  The design used was created to allow bottom mouth movement and independent control of the body and head.

Creation of a Poster - "The Art Of Baking"

Picture
"The Art of Baking" poster created by the skilled Matthew Van Gorkom was a process.  First the general idea was created.  The idea was to incorporate all of the characters that would be featured in the show. Each character was to be exhibited working in the position they have in the bakery.  Mr. D., the fox, was positioned in a way to present to the viewer the staff in his bakery.  Raul, the jaguar, was to be featured working with the batter for the cakes.  Although in the performance, he is featured with an industrial like mixer with lights and knobs it was decided a simple mixing bowl would convey his duty at the bakery.  Jae, the tortoise, being an artistic froster was set in a concentrated pose as she conveyed her craft of decorating confectionery masterpieces.  Claire, the Cow, was going to be placed on an elaborate machine but after a few changes the design took a turn to show Claire with a frosting hose.  Once the design and the elements were chosen,  Van Gorkom, made a quick sketch of the design.  Placement of characters and their positions were established.  The next phase was to create the attire for each character.  Once all of the elements were approved and put into place the final step of coloring the design was implemented.  Resulting in the poster you see for "The Art of Baking" puppet show.
